Project GRAD Kenai Peninsula is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a grant from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority to support a Rural School Counselor Program.

This will fund a full-time, certified school counselor to serve K–12 students across four of our rural partner communities: Tyonek, Nanwalek, Port Graham, and Ninilchik. The counselor will travel between communities on a regular schedule, providing consistent, culturally responsive mental health services directly within schools.

This work will focus on both prevention and intervention, including social-emotional learning, suicide prevention programming, individual and group counseling, and crisis response. In addition, the counselor will support students in staying on track for graduation and preparing for life after high school, helping to strengthen protective factors and the overall web of support around youth.

We are incredibly grateful to the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority for their partnership and investment in the well-being of students and communities across the Kenai Peninsula. This funding represents an important step forward in sustaining access to mental health support in our schools.
